Who or what inspired you to pursue a career in your chosen field?
My brother and I were the first born in the USA to immigrant parents who fled discrimination and poverty in Eastern Europe between WWI and WWII. They saw higher education as the best means of assimilation and medicine as the pinnacle of achievement.
Can you share a defining moment that shaped your career?
On the first day of my internship at Chicago Cook County Hospital, we were advised to seek a Vietnam-era deferment via The Berry Plan. This plan allowed physicians to postpone obligatory military service until they had finished medical school and residency training.
How would you describe your personal and professional values?
An integration of integrity with achievement.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Play it again, Sam; do it the same the second time around.
What personal or professional achievements are you most proud of?
I am proud of having enjoyed three distinct careers and playing a leadership role in each. First, as a joint replacement surgeon, I served as the head of one of the top five joint replacement programs in the country, achieving this by integrating patient care with clinical research and education.
I retired as Professor Emeritus and began my second career in the emerging discipline of regenerative medicine. By integrating patient care with clinical research, I helped bring orthobiologics into the mainstream of musculoskeletal care.
Now, I am involved in my third career as Medical Director of QC Kinetix, where I hope to play a significant role in evolving evidence-based initiatives and positioning QC Kinetix as a leader in musculoskeletal non-surgical care.
How do you manage stress and maintain a healthy work-life balance to ensure overall well-being?
QC means Queen City. I am married to QW, Queen Wife, with whom I enjoy a balance of cultural activities including symphony and theater; regular recreational pursuits such as fitness, cycling, gardening, skiing, and fly fishing. Additionally, I minimize television and am an avid reader. In between, we enjoy spending time with our three adult children and seven grandchildren.
How do you define success?
Personal satisfaction.
Who is the one entrepreneur or business leader that you consider to be your greatest example and inspiration? Why?
Robert Wislow, a tireless and extremely successful Chicago real estate developer, is responsible for many of Chicago’s major public spaces and cultural treasures. He serves on many local and national boards while continuing to give back to our community, combining his development achievements with public good.
Are there any charitable organizations or community service-oriented activities that you are involved in?
My wife and I support numerous community service-oriented activities, as well as several at the national and international level, ranging from conservation to enhancing society and civility.
Please tell us an inspirational, uplifting story about a time you helped change someone’s life, or someone helped change your life and made a difference.
Many individuals played a part in my growth and achievements, including those who were part of my high school, college, medical, and residency education.
If my parents hadn’t set sail when they did, things might not have worked out so well.
One memorable instance was when I received a call from an outside hospital requesting permission to transfer an 18-year-old man who had been involved in a motor vehicle accident. Three other passengers, all on their way to college, were killed. The request was made so I might attempt to save his lower extremity, which had suffered an open fracture with a significant loss of thigh bone. Initially, an amputation close to the hip had been recommended. The parents had known of me and requested a transfer to my care. At the time, limb salvage was in its infancy and vascularized fibular bone grafts for large segmental bone defects were experimental. Today, that 18-year-old is about to retire after a 35-plus-year career as a Chicago fireman, having served without limitation.

Dr. Mitchell Sheinkop’s life and career demonstrate the power of combining integrity with success. His steadfast dedication to his patients and his field has earned him respect and led to significant advancements in orthobiologic treatment.

He aims to incorporate physical therapy and weight loss into existing treatment frameworks to elevate patient results and overall satisfaction, positively impacting the entire brand.
Additionally, Dr. Sheinkop will focus on refining the training and certification processes for practitioners, underlining the critical role of evidence-based medicine within regenerative care practices.
Reflecting on his journey, Dr. Sheinkop stated, “I am from a hardworking blue-collar, Midwestern family. I attribute my success in medicine to a strong work ethic, a little luck, and not being afraid to seize opportunities.”
